Dr. Sëan Cleary

Radiation Oncologist
Medical Director,
Memorial Hospital Cancer Care Services

Recognized for combining advanced clinical technology with a personal,
humane approach to healing, Sëan Cleary is orchestrating a vision that is
resulting in a new era in cancer care.

"Through my own experiences with family members with cancer, I knew what I wanted to see as the best possible care. As we've developed the North Star Lodge, I've envisioned every possible support and technological
advancement."

Adding new staff, technology and advanced approaches to the cancer-fighting resources available in Central Washington is just the beginning.

"Education is a major component of what we want North Star Lodge to provide to the community. Our general approach is really to inform patients and their families about their diagnosis and treatment options. We keep them as members of the team in their treatment. That really empowers them to feel they're treated with respect and given the information they need to make an informed decision about how they'd like to approach things."

"We're also members of a number of cooperative groups for clinical trials so patients have access not only to top-notch standard care but also to the
latest advancements in clinical trials and protocols to give them a chance
at experimental therapies as well."

Cleary is a firm believer in the impact environment can have on healing.
"The healing environment helps patients have a sense of well-being, a sense of empowerment and perhaps an immune stimulation that improves their chances to heal up and recover from treatment."

"At North Star Lodge, cancer care is really cutting-edge in every way. From
the diagnostic quality of our x-rays, with the new CT scanner, the GE
accu-simulator equipment technicians and with all the precise treatment
planning for radiation therapy and modern chemotherapy techniques, there is really very little in cancer care that is not available at North Star
Lodge."

"We know that patients who have a strong support group, who have a spiritual faith, often do better. So much of our cancer center --- with the support groups and the comforting nature of all staff around the patient and their family --- is designed to help bolster the feeling of well-being and really influence patients' outcomes and overall health."
